Professor Benny Morris

Benny Morris was born in Kibbutz Ein Hahoresh, Israel, in 1948. He grew up in Israel and New York City, graduating Ramaz Yeshiva High School in 1966. He served in the IDF in Nahal infantry-paratroops, and was educated in Israel (Hebrew University) and England, receiving his Ph.D. in modern European history at Cambridge University (1977).

He worked as a journalist on The Jerusalem Post (1978-1990), variously as reporter and news editor, and since 1997 has been on the faculty of Ben-Gurion University (Middle East Studies Department), Beersheba, Israel. He has published a number of books on the Israel-Arab conflict, including The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited (2003), Righteous Victims: A History of the Zionist -Arab Conflict 1881-1999 (1999); and 1948, A History of the First Arab-Israeli War (2008). He has written for The New York Times, Newsweek, The LA Times, The New Republic, The New York Review of Books, The Guardian, The Observer, Corriere della Sera, etc. He lives in Li-on, Israel, and is married with three children.
